Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Private, evidence-based care for bladder,
bowel, pelvic pain and pregnancy-related
concerns.

Pelvic floor problems are common, but they are not something you just
have to live with. Our physiotherapists assess the root cause and guide
you through a personalised plan, one step at a time.

What is Pelvic Health
Physiotherapy?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that supports your bladder, bowel and
(in women) the uterus. When these muscles are too weak, too tight or poorly
coordinated, they can cause leaking, urgency, pain or a feeling of heaviness.

Pelvic health physiotherapy is a specialised area of physiotherapy that
assesses and treats these muscles together with your posture, breathing, core
and daily habits, so we address the cause and not just the symptoms.

My husband recommended BMJ after having a great experience there and recovering from his elbow pain in just one visit.I decided to give it a try, and I’m really glad I did. Ms. Alyssa Tang was very attentive and took the time to understand my pain and identify what might be causing it. She guided me through specific exercises, and I could already feel a noticeable difference after my first visit.During my second visit, she went a step further by explaining what I was doing incorrectly in my daily routine and how my posture could be contributing to the pain. She patiently corrected my posture and showed me the right exercises and movements to prevent the problem from coming back.I really appreciate her knowledge, patience and the personalised attention she gave me. It was reassuring to have someone not just treat the pain, but also help me understand the root cause and how to avoid it in the future.Thank you, Alyssa, for your guidance and care. My Dr. had even mentioned surgery might be my last resort. However, before taking that step, he wanted me to give physio a final try & recommended BMJ & that led me to you. Many thanks to your expertise & dedication for guiding me throughout my recovery. I am now pain free in both my back & shoulder 😊😊With great appreciation!Isabella KuaThanks once again forLeigh NgLeigh Ng ★★★★★ I’ve been seeing Sam for the past few weeks for my neck and shoulder issues, and I’m very grateful for the care and support he has given me throughout my treatment.Sam is patient, gentle and attentive in his approach. He takes the time to understand how I’m feeling, explains the treatment and exercises clearly, and never makes the sessions feel rushed. I also appreciate that he doesn’t just focus on the physical symptoms — he picks up on the emotional side of what a patient may be going through as well, which makes a real difference when you’ve been dealing with ongoing pain and discomfort.I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a therapist who is both skilled and compassionate.Robin LohRobin Loh ★★★★★ Consulted Physio Sam regarding knee pains and he shared exercises to continue at home to support the knees better. Following up after about 2 weeks of rehab, the pain was significantly reduced and I’m thankful for the help. He was clear in his explanations and guidance, and the results were very assuring.Luka DebeljakLuka Debeljak ★★★★★ Great experience, knowledgeable team and they fixed my back problems!Rashmi KumarRashmi Kumar ★★★★☆ Went in with knee pain. Sam guided me by giving me some exercises to relieve the pain. I can say that the pain has reduced by 70%. His suggestions really helped. Thanks Sam!Anna NgAnna Ng ★★★★★ Recommend this place. Yi Liang was my physiotherapist. Very detailed, logical and thoughtful. Greatly appreciated the degree of care put to helping me rehab my injured knees!RoxieRoxie ★★★★★ I had a fall and sustained a long standing knee pain for years. Wonderful experience and pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of "cold needling" therapy by Senior Physiotherapist Alexis in resolving my muscles/ ligament sprain and aches.EuniceEunice ★★★★★ Been through soooo many physiotherapists and I'm glad to have found Aloysius and Christine. After being with them for a year post ankle and calf surgery, I am a changed person. I can(-ish) run now, I play pickleball, and I complain about my pains to Aloysius. With Aloysius, it's a love-hate relationship. I hate the work that I have to put in (I'm lazy), but I love the results it produces. And more often than not, I find myself saying "Aloysius was right again." With Christine, I've said this many times over, but she needs to have a caution or warning sign in front of her door. My friend and I seriously talked about creating a fan club for her. Go in with fear and trembling, come out as loose as an infant. She goes deep but she knows exactly what you can take, even if you don't. She respects and listens to your muscles, knowing the limits you don't. If you cry involuntary tears, you'd come out grateful that you did. Aloysius, Christine and Irene (the best recep and admin I know) make the best team I needed, they are not only genuine, caring and sincere, but they've given me a new lease in life, allowing me to do things I once thought I could never do again. My HIGHEST recommendation!!Eric ZEric Z ★★★★★ I had a back injury about a year ago and was referred to BMJ by my doctor. Big thanks to Fred who took care of my injury with his vast knowledgable and experiene. In the past year, the recovery journey has been amazing. I am now living a basically pain-free life with continuous targeted exercises.Chin Chye TanChin Chye Tan ★★★★★ Highly recommend BMJ Therapy for the caring and professional treatment of my rotator cuff injury. Physiotherapist Sam was very professional in coaching me the appropriate exercises and I could see gradual improvements over the first 6 weeks after my surgery. Recovery process is a long & tiring journey and it matters a lot to have a good physiotherapist to guide the injured to full recovery. FAQ

No. You can book directly with us. Some insurance plans may require a referral to cover the cost, so it is worth checking with your insurer.

Not always. An internal (vaginal) pelvic floor assessment is the most accurate way to check how your pelvic floor muscles contract, relax and coordinate, so your physiotherapist may recommend it for conditions such as leaking, pelvic pain or pelvic floor weakness. It is never compulsory. We will explain why it may help, what it involves and the alternatives, and only proceed with your informed consent. You can pause or stop at any time, bring a companion, or choose an external-only assessment instead. Many patients start with an external assessment and decide later.

Yes. Pelvic health physiotherapy is safe at every stage of pregnancy and is often recommended. We can help with pelvic girdle pain, back pain, leaking, and preparing your pelvic floor and body for labour and birth. Treatment is adapted to your trimester, and positions are adjusted as your bump grows. Internal assessments are generally not performed during pregnancy unless there is a specific clinical reason and your doctor agrees. Please tell us how many weeks pregnant you are and let your obstetrician know if you have any pregnancy complications.

You can start gentle pelvic floor exercises and breathing within the first few days after birth, if you feel comfortable. A full postnatal pelvic health assessment is usually recommended around six weeks after delivery (or later after a caesarean or complicated birth), once your doctor has cleared you at your postnatal review. If you have leaking, heaviness, pain or tummy separation earlier than this, you do not need to wait. Contact us and we can advise on what is appropriate for you.

Every patient is different. Most people notice improvement within four to six sessions, usually spread one to two weeks apart, alongside a home exercise programme. Pelvic floor muscles, like any muscle, typically need around eight to twelve weeks of consistent training to build lasting strength. After your first assessment, your physiotherapist will give you an estimate based on your condition, goals and progress, and review this with you regularly.

Physiotherapy is claimable under many personal and corporate medical insurance plans, but coverage varies. Some plans need a doctor’s referral, a specialist letter or pre-authorisation before your first session. We recommend checking with your insurer, HR or insurance agent before your visit.

Wear comfortable, loose clothing you can move in, such as a T-shirt with leggings or track pants. Please bring any referral letters, scan or test results, a list of your current medications, and your insurance details if you plan to claim. If possible, keep a simple bladder diary for two to three days beforehand, noting how much you drink, how often you pass urine and any leaks. It is fine to attend during your period; just let us know when you arrive.

Take the first step, in confidence.
